Firetruck!
A firetruck came to visit Molly’s school today. Here are some pictures.
By the way, Molly is not yet able to pronounce her “T” sound, ugh less “TR”, and she substitutes “F” instead. So when she told us about the firetruck, it sounded like a weird, nasty word at first.

What a dork!
One-Shoe Molly
Molly sees no need to always wear both of her shoes. Wearing one is just as good — if not better — than two.
Sometimes one of Molly’s shoes comes off by accident, such as when getting out of her little toddler seat at the dining room table. In this case, there is no need to bother retrieving the lost shoe under the table and put it back on. That is a waste of time, people!
Other times — and this variation has yet to be fully explained — she specifically stops and sits down to take off one shoe. Sometimes she takes off the sock too, and sometimes she leaves it on. Then she gets back up and wanders off, proudly wearing a single shoe.
Molly makes this look so natural and purposeful. Could you image an adult walking up to you, wearing a solitary shoe, and just saying, “Hi, can I have a crayon?”, as Molly does. One time Molly had her pants on backwards too, which was a real sight.
Another variation, used mostly in the car, is to take off both shoes, and usually the socks too. This approach seems more sensible and mostly valid, I think. I think we all do this from time to time. The only issue here is the frequency. Some mornings, I have to put Molly’s shoes on three different times before school: once on the way out the door, again when we arrive at Claire’ school, and again when we arrive at Molly’s school.
Maybe Molly’s teachers will allow her to wear those easy-on, easy-off Crocs to school next year, so she can manage most of the repeated donning and doffing on her own.
Oh, Molly
The last few posts have been about Claire. Claire is doing school assignments, earning allowance, inventing creative sayings, and doing other things which can be described with words. Molly has been left out of the last few posts because she basically just wanders around, smiles, messes with stuff, talks a little, hangs out with Claire, and acts really cute. These things are not usually a specific event that would trigger a blog post, and they cannot generally be described well with words. So to catch us up with Molly, perhaps a few pictures would do the best service.
Messy
Here is a good snapshot of how dinner often turns out with Molly. Her yogurt has been removed since most of it ended up smeared on the table. Molly’s pushed away her own beans and flauta in protest. She could not be convinced to eat the flauta, despite Claire’s enthusiasm for them and reluctance to give one up for Molly. Molly has drained her milk and eaten half of a tortilla, which are consistent favorites.

Messy Molly
Molly is not afraid to get her hands dirty. Or her face, hair, arms, legs, or feet, for that matter.
Molly and her clothes often comes home from school covered in different colors of (washable) paint. One time she went to school with a blue shirt, and they did a blue paint “activity” that day. The teachers tell us that during the day, Molly literally was covered head to toe in blue, and she looked like a Smurf.
Molly’s face and hair are often covered in food (usually yogurt) and snot (or “mucus” as they so politely say at school). Sometimes her hands and then her face are covered in black tire smudge at the end of a walk in the jogger, thanks to her curious hands, which love to feel the tires. Then there is sweat, which usually provides an outer moist layer all over her body during the warm months.
But enough words. Please enjoy this montage of Molly’s greatest messy moments (so far) caught on film.
