Molly Rides a Bike!

After a few years of on-and-off attempts to ride a bike, Molly is finally doing it!

Molly got a ride-behind bike for her birthday and got a little experience pedaling with me around the neighborhood and even across town. And then she got inspired to try riding on her own. I was a little skeptical this was going to work, but Molly was determined to make it work.

Here are the results of a little trial and error on Alpine Road. Here is footage of literally the first time Molly really rode her bike on her own. πŸ˜„

I was so excited, I kept saying stuff like “Molly, I’m so proud of you. This morning you couldn’t ride a bike, and now you can!” or “This is the start of a whole new thing for you!”. And Molly basically told me to calm down. “Dad, every day hundreds or kids learn to ride a bike.” πŸ˜‚ But you could tell she was proud.

Here’s some footage from a week later once she’s really got it down.

A Ride to Alta’s Cafe

This was a treat we got after riding out tandem / ride-behind bike from my house to Alta’s Cafe downtown on the other side of the lake. I wasn’t sure we could make it all the way, but we did it! I liked Molly’s positive attitude. Even the uphill in the dark on the way home did not bother us.

At Alta’s, we realized we didn’t have the key to my bike lock, so we couldn’t lock the bike. We kept worrying that someone would steal our bike(s), and this older couple kept hovering around it. But in the end, nobody wanted to drag away our super-awkward double bike. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Avatar Verse

Claire has started the fascinating new hobby of making video edits with clips from Avatar: The Last Airbender. ☺️ She had seen a few edits on Instagram and decided to do her own!

To get started, Claire asked me if she could buy Video Star for the iPad. At first, I thought this was just a silly little editing app. But she can do amazing things with it! I was stunned to watch Claire just figure out on her own how to make beautiful edits with this app.

Way to go, Clairey!
