Vomit

Molly woke up up vomiting the other night.  She vomited all over herself, her blankets, her mom, me, and her stuffed animals.  Molly had caught a stomach bug going around that would eventually get 14 of the 16 kids in her class, and 2 of the 3 teachers.   Molly would spend a couple of days at home recovering, and it was her first time to use the “sick bed”, an inflatable bed that we get out when people are vomiting and cannot be trusted to keep their real beds vomit-free.  Claire had used this several times before, but this was Molly’s first shot.  As bad as she felt, Molly was thrilled with the sick bed and all the attention and fussing over her.  Claire, too, was pretty excited to be up in the middle of the night helping out.  For the next few days, Claire and Molly would tell anyone who would listen about the night of vomiting, and Molly in particular would have a big grin on her face when telling the tale.  Claire would say, “Oh, Molly’s just bragging.”

We did not take any pictures of the action on the night of vomiting, but we did get this sweet moment the net day when Claire took it upon herself to entertain Molly with a book in her sick bed.

Whew!

This blog, among many other things, took a back seat while I finished up my first iPhone app, Santa Scan.  The app should be fun for kids around Christmas.  When I finally showed it to Claire, she loved it even more than I thought she would.  She went crazy when she finally found Santa and heard him say, “Ho ho ho!”  Claire became a little obsessed and kept yelling, “I can’t believe I heard Santa on Daddy’s phone!”

It was a tough push to get the app submitted to Apple, and I had spent the previous three weekends and a late night almost entirely dedicated to the app, while Kit and/or her mom watched the kids and generally took care of things around the house.  I could have never finished the app in time for Christmas if it had not been for their extensive help with the kids.

You can follow news of the new app on the Round Trip Software website or on Twitter.

Fall Program Intro

Claire was chosen as the “stage manager” for her first grade class’ fall music performance, the Fall Program.  She even got to dress up for the part!  Claire originally had a part introducing one of the songs in the middle of the show, but her song got cut, so she was assigned the role of letting the parents in the door and introducing the show.  She did not have a chance to memorize the whole script, so what you see here is Claire basically reading the script aloud.  This is amazing, considering that she is still learning to read!

The first and last song of the show was Fifty Nifty United States.

Fifty Nifty!

Claire’s class sings “Fifty Nifty United States” as part of their Fall Program.  Claire had been practicing and singing this song for weeks, and we were absolutely amazed to hear at home her gradually list off all 50 states in alphabetical order, eventually with ease. That is hard!  The theme of the program was the various United States, and this song was the centerpiece of the show.  Other songs included “New York, New York”, “California, Here I Come”, and many more.

Molly the Astronaut

Claire got out her space suit today for fun.  Molly, of course, wanted to give it a shot too, although the costume was way too big for her.  Luckily, we caught the silliness on video.

The best part is near the end, when Molly trips, but she is okay.

Mucus and Ketchup

We had gone out to Poke-e-Jo’s Barbecue for dinner, where Molly enjoyed chicken tenders with ketchup — lots of ketchup, as always.  She also had a runny nose, and by the time we drove home, her face was covered in both mucus and ketchup.  Even Molly thought it was gross and funny.  I did not get a picture of her face at the time, since I was busy wiping it down, but here is Molly reviewing the day with us at bedtime.

Speaking of ketchup, Molly is still crazy about it.  It helps almost any food go down.  Apples?  Yes.  Raisins?  Yes.  Cheerios?  Of course.  And why not dip your macaroni and cheese in it?  That last one almost made even me gag.  But it gets the food down, and Molly is growing, so she gets to figure out later that this is gross.

Diving in with her clothes on

Claire is just wrapping up her very successful swim lessons. At her last class, the kids were told to wear regular clothes over their swimsuits for the “clothesline test”. The idea is to simulate accidentally falling into the water in full clothing and being able to get back to safety.

Claire, never shrinking from a challenge, chose to jump in wearing a long-sleeve shirt and skirt over her swimsuit. She was able to extra herself from the water with ease, which would definitely not have happened before this class. Way to go Elmer Swim School!

Week of the Young Child

Every year at the day care, they have Week of the Young Child, which is a whole week full of fun activities for the kids.  There are confetti, painting, pizza, family-style lunch, and more.  This video captures Molly at the grande finale on Friday.  It was a concert on the playground.  This also happened to be pajama day, so everyone is dancing around in their pajamas.  Molly is in the white shirt and yellow print pants.
